Fall is almost here y’all! I absolutely love this time of year! Obviously, with the new season coming up, I had to put up a new wreath! I know, I have a new wreath every season… But I found this stuff and had a wonderful epiphany! I saw this decorative mesh and just knew I needed to make my own DIY Sunflower Wreath!

DIY Sunflower Wreath Tutorial

Guys, I got the wreath frame and all the decorative mesh at the dollar store! This whole wreath cost me $7! This is a super affordable DIY for fall!

You will need:

  • 14″ Wreath Frame from the dollar store
  • Yellow Decorative Mesh from the dollar store (5 pkgs or 25 yds or more depending on how full you want your wreath)
  • Brown Decorative Mesh from the dollar store (1 pkg or 5 yds)
  • Scissors (or rotary cutter and mat)
  • Yard Stick
  • Glue Gun & Glue

1 | The Center

Stretch strips of the brown mesh across the wreath frame and glue them down to the inner circle of the wreath frame. Stretch it so that it narrows, but don’t pull it too tight because we are going to weave some strips through later. Make sure not to burn yourself with the hot glue! I have burned myself many, many times. It sucks! So be careful when gluing!

Continue gluing the strips in lines across the inner circle.

Weave strips through the already glued strips. Then glue the edges down to the center ring of the wreath frame.

Tuck the ends through to the back of the wreath frame and trim the excess. It should look like this:

2 | Cut the Yellow Mesh

Cut the yellow mesh into approximately 18-inch strips. I used a cutting mat for this which made cutting this stuff a million times easier! Don’t worry if your strips of mesh aren’t exactly the same size because you’ll never notice in the finished wreath.

I ended up with a whole table full of these little mesh rolls. They roll back up automatically, so I didn’t worry about trying to flatten them. This little bit of curl helps add a ton of volume to the petals in the finished wreath.

3 | Adding the Petals

Now it’s time for the petals! These are literally just tied to the frame! Just make a loop and tuck it through the frame.

Tuck the ends through the loop and pull! You’ll end up with a knot like this:

Tie these yellow mesh strips all the way around the wreath frame. I only did 2 rows of the yellow strips, but you can add them to the third row too if you want more volume to the pedals. I didn’t find it necessary because it was already so full.

4 | Finishing Touches

Fluff out the petals to your desired fluffiness. I also fluffed up the knot part on the top layer of petals.
