Crochet Hot Pads
Ok, so these Crochet Hot Pad patterns are similar to my Crochet Washcloths Pattern. It uses the same technique, there are just a few minor differences. When it comes to crochet hot pads, the rule of thumb is to double your thickness. This will allow for the air to circulate which protects your table and countertops in addition to saving your hands from some nasty burns. And, did I mention, they’re super cute?
Crochet Hot Pads Tutorial
I have written out the instructions for two different sizes for you to choose from. The first is my standard-sized hot pad which is about 8.5″ x 8.5″. The second is the larger version and is designed to accommodate larger things like 9×13 pans, sheet pans, and really anything else that would normally require 2+ hot pads at any given time. These work out to be about 8.5″ x 12.5″.
You will need:
- 2 skiens cotton yard (Lily Sugar’n Cream is my favorite)
- J/ 6mm Crochet Hook
- Scissors
Abbreviations:
- Ch – Chain
- St – Stitch
- Sl St – Slip Stitch
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Tc – Trebel Crochet
- Rep – Repeat
When it comes to hot pads, typically you want to double your thickness. So, for this pattern, I just crochet with two different strands together like this:
Standard Hot Pad Pattern
About 8.5″ x 8.5″
For the Standard Hot Pad, I used Lily Sugar’n Cream in Cream and Mod Blue.

Row 2 | Sc in 2nd st from hook, Tc in next st, alternate sc and tc x9 to the end of the row, sc in last st, ch 1 and turn |
Row 3-20 | Rep row 1 and 2 |
Row 21 | Sc in 2nd ch, sc in each st (21), 2 sc in last st |
